County Council's Tar Sealing Programme
WORKS IN PROGRESS DUSTFREE ROADS HOW WORK IS PROCEEDING In his report to the Franklin County Council on Monday the engineer, Mr A. C. Bettany, reported that tar-sealing operations had been completed on several roads in the county.
The following extracts from bis repo rl give details of work in band, or cnmplel ed : —- Papakura-Titi main highway: The whole length 01. Ibis road is now sealed and Hie application of the bitumen coal will commence at an early dale. Drury-Kohekohe main highway- — Runcimaii lo Paerat a section: The sealing of Ibis section is now completed and the three months’ maintenance period has commenced. . A number of minor matters will lie given attention in the next three months. Pukekohe-Bombay main highway: The sealing of this road is now complete. A number of minor matters will be given attention during the maintenance period. Pukekohe-Glenmurray main highway: The long spell of wet weather caused the contractor and traffic further trouble in the big cut near the river. Soft places along the river hank have necessitated alterations to Hie planned grades and a large slip must be removed before the road can lie put on correct alignment.- On the rest of the road the contractor is making good progress. Black bridge: One half of this bridge is complete and traffic will be turned across it this week to enable Ihe second half to be built.
Drury-Kohekohe main highway- — Gienbrook to Waiuku section: The contractor is making good progress. Waitangi culvert and cut are practically complete and basecourse metal lias been spread as far as Waitangi cut.
