Rats in England

FORTY MILLION OF THEM! It is estimated that England has a rat population of between it),000,000 and 50,000,000, and that London has 25,000 rats to the square, mile. According to rat catchers, London rats leave town gi large numbers by the railways, especially by goods trains. Some years ago a number of captured rats were marked and released at Euston station in London. Within six months three of these marked rats were captured—one in Norfolk, and another in Yorkshire, and the third in Shropshire. It is said that many country rats come to London, especially in the summer. The ratmenace is regarded seriously in England. and every year a campaign against them is waged during rat week.
