PUKEKOHE EAST BRANCH THE FEBRUARY MEETING FUNDS FOR HOUSEKEEPING SCHEME There was a fair attendance at the February meeting of the Pukekohe East branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union held on Wednesday afternoon.
The secretary read an interesting paper on adult education and an invitation to the Puni Division’s flower show.
Mrs L. Morgan gave a report on the Waitemata Council and urged members to give a little more financial support to the housekeeping funds in view of the housekeeper’s salary being raised to 35/- per week. Members were asked to give their opinion on the issue “conscription v. Voluntary Enlistment,” and Hie president had to give tier casting vote in favour of conscription.
The majority of members are keen (o have the branch enter a play in the dramatic festival next June. Mrs Robinson, who is in charge of 11 :<> shop window display at the Franklin show, then called the roll to find out exactly what each member was doing.
The annual flower show is to be held on Wednesday, March 13, and the committee will meet next Tuesday to draw up the schedule. The competitions for 11 1 0 afternoon resulted: Pickles. Mrs Goutts. 1. 2 and 3: chutney, Mrs M. Johnston I: best bloom, Mrs S. Hamilton i, Mrs S. Hamilton and Mrs Contis (equal) 2. Mrs ,T. Morgan 3.
Three or four of the members have jusl paid a visit to Hie exhibition, while the president also paid a visit to I he. rest home at Palmerston North on her way through.
THE KARAKA BRANCH The Kanaka branch of the Women's Division held its monthly meeting recently, the president. Mrs A. W. Howie presiding over a good at tendance. A wish was expressed that, all members al I end nex! meeting as il was the end of the financial year. The election of officers would take place. Mrs Rankin of Papakura. gave an interesting description of her visit to the centennial exhibition. After thanking her Mrs Howie presented Mrs Rankin with a bouquet of pansies. Competitions resulted: —Best bloom, Mrs Wallers I. Mrs G. Wood 2, Mrs Hunter 3: lies! butterfly cakes. -Mrs FTohil 1. Mrs W. .1. Higham 2: best cushion worked in wool. Mrs G. Iligham t, Mrs W. J. Higham 2. The hostesses were Mrs Sharplin and Miss Neal.
