100 New Books. A list cl' 100 new books which have been added to (lie Pukekohe Public Library appears on page 3. Swimming Carnival Postponed. Owing to unfavourable weather the Pukekohe Swimming Club's carnival arranged for last night was postponed. Heavy Rainfall for February. It. is reported from the Palumahoe School that 4.14 inches of rain have fallen since the school opened on February s—a period of eleven days. Subsidy on Centennial Received. The secretary of the Tuakau Centennial Memorial Committee announced recently that the Government’s subsidy amounting to £133 ins for the centennial memorial p.r\k at Tuakau has been received. Did Pupils to Re-visit School. Mrs Cow of Auckland, and formerly of Patumahoe, has signified her intention to be present at the 70th anniversary celebrations of the Patumahoe school to be held on March 1. Mrs Cow will probably be the oldest pupil present. She began her schooling in the first Presbyterian church which was used as a school and shortly before leaving transferred to the newlyerected building in use at present. Perspicacity of Postal Officials. A local business man tells of a peculiar experience, illustrating the perspicacity of postal officials. He says he addressed a business letter to a settler living a few miles away. A day or so later a postal official brought the letter to him, explaining that it had been incorrectly addressed. That was all right, but be asked how the postal officers knew who had written it, and was informed that they had recognised the writing. Telling of the incident, he said he never realised that his caligraphy was distinct in any way, and is still marvelling at the incident. —Te Awamutu Courier.
