Minister’s Visit to Franklin County
DRAINAGE INSPECTION MAMGATAWHIRI VALLEY SCHEME COUNCIL'S FEBRUARY MEETING Further arrangements regarding the visit to the district of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, next week, were made at Monday’s meeting of the Franklin County Council.
The chairman, Mr J. IN. Massey, M.F., presided, and there were present: Messrs .1. Dean, \V. A. Peterson, r Wilcox. .). Matliieson, H. P. Garland, W. Claud Motion, M. .1. Hatton W. ,T. Sommerville, the county clerk, Mr Alan P. Day, and tlie engineer, Mr A. G. Bell any. An apology for-non-attendance was received from Mr A. E. H. Urquliari.
Advice was received that Mr Semple would he in Franklin on Monday next, and would spend the day making his promised inspection of the Mangatav.liiri Valley, with a view to improved drainage facilities there. Mr Dean, riding member, said that he would convene a meeting at Mangatawhiri on Saturday night, when members could meet the ratepayers prior to the Minister’s visit. The matter ot' bringing before the Minister the question of Appleby's bridge and stock routes in the valley, was left in the chairman’s hands.
The engineer was authorised to confer with the District Public Works engineer as to a survey and estimate of the cost of the work. “On behalf of the ratepayers, I must thank the council for the consideration given this matter,” said Mr Dean. Mr W. G. Hudson, Graham’s Beach, wrote applying for improvements to the access road to his property from Big Bay road. —The engineer was instructed to report on the cost of such work; and to put it in hand, if the job proved a small one, otherwise to report to the council.
