Tractors on Farms
NEW ZEALAND’S LARGE TOTAL In New' Zealand it was estimated in 1937 that there were 6585 tractors being used in agricultural pursuits. This figure has been substantially increased during the past 12 months. Tractor dealers report that sales of tractors have reached record figures this year, and there is every indication that the next 12 months will show a further increase over last year’s figures. In Australia it is estimated that there are now over 57,000 tractors being operated by agriculturists. In Great Britain approximately 60,000 tractors are in service: in Italy, 85,860; and in the United Slates of America no less Ilian 1,187,331 tractors are engaged in farming pursuits.
II will amaze most people to learn of the extent, of the tractor manufacturing industry of the United Slates. According to Ihe Department of Commerce of that country tlie value of (he farm tractors produced in America in I 937 totalled £53,600,000. This figure represents a gain of 25 per cent over the 1936 output and 85 per cent ever thaf of l 985.
