Inspector N. C. Davenport stated that on October 15 he had observed defendant travelling at a high speed on the other side of the station, and found him to be doing 50 miles an hour. Traffic was light, and the day was fine. Davenay said that he failed to observe the sign. He had looked carefully, but saw no one about. The Magistrate, Mr W. H. Freeman: That is what you did. You saw no one about, and “went for it.” You always want to look for the sign first. The penalty was imposed as above. j OFFENCE AT POKENO A charge of failing to keep to the left-hand side of the road was preferred against John Dunn (Mr A. P. King). Inspector Davenport stated that he had observed defendant pass another car on the bend on' the Great South Road immediately north of Pokeno on October 22. To do this Dunn had to go over to the wrong side of the road. He continued on his incorect side until he was able to pull on to the correct side. Defendant was convicted and ordered to pay costs only, 10s. When the Magistrate imposed the penalty, defendant told his Worship that Inspector Davenport had showed him every courtesy in drawing his attention to the offence, after he had slopped him.
