Rates in the Franklin County
£21,137 COLLECTED REBATE TILL NOVEMBER 30 ONLY TWO DAYS LEFT At a meeting of the finance committee of the Franklin County Council held last week, the county clerk (Mr Alan P. Day), reported that the rate collection was ahead of last year.
The county cerk stated today that rates had been coming in freely during the last three weeks and indications were that the sum collected up to rehate date (November 30) would be much more than last year. “The total rate levied for the current year over the whole county is estimated (less rebate) to produce approximately, £47,940,” said Mr Day. “Rate notices were posted this year on October 31 and a rebate of five percent offered on rates paid within 30 days. Under the Rating Act rebate could not be allowed on any rates paid after November 30.” “The total of rates collected this year to date is £21,173, compared with a collection of £12,937 for the corresponding period of last year. As rate notices were posted about three weeks earlier this year the collection is, considered satisfactory and indicates that ratepayers realise the advantage of paying, rates promtly to secure the rebate , allowed up tsll November ?0.” '' b n ■ ..“Despite, increased traffic on roads, fnuch higher hospital levy, higher wages, shorter working hours and other factors all tending to increase rates, the total county rate levied for the current year is still below the rate levied for what is known as the peak rate year, 1929-1930, when £49,494 was levied,” added Mr Day. “The Auckland Hospital Board’s levy, for the current year is a rate of .42d in the £ on capital value —a total of £9,377 over the Franklin county. This levy is £2557 more than the 192930 levy,” he concluded.
