POKENO NOTES

WOMEN’S DIVISION’S AFFAIRS

MONTHLY MEETING The September meeting of the Pokeno Women’s Division was held in the Pokeno Valley hall on Friday last. The president, Mrs Lennan, presided over a good attendance. A “bring and buy” stall was held in aid of funds for the flower show to be held on November 15. During the afternoon a demonstration in dressmaking was given by Miss J. McAnnulty, and keen interest was shown by ail. The competition was won by Mrs Wilson. Afternoon tea was served by Mrs Gulland and Mrs McGlay, the hostesses for the afternoon. Enjoyable Dance The social committee of the Pokeno hall lieid its final dance on Saturday evening. The function was well attended, many visitors from surrounding districts being present. Holt’s dance band was in attendance and Mr Clendon ably carried out the duties of master of ceremonies. A spot waltz was won by Mrs Irvine and partner. The lucky number for a cake was drawn by Mr A. J. Mcßobhie. A sumptuous supper was served by the Lelies’ committee. Transferred Mr Godber, a member of the staff of the Pokeno post office, has been transferred to Kaitieke. Mr Norris will fill the vacancy.
