A BRILLIANT FUNCTION
PAPAKURA R.S.A. BALL AX EFFECTIVE COLOUR SCHEME Bed. while and blue was the predominating note in an effective colour scheme at the Papakura Returned Soldiers' ball held in the Windsor theatre on Thursday evening. Over 400 were present including visitors from district parts. Suspended from the ceiling, and draped around the walls, were Union Jacks and ilags of Allied Nations. A further reminiscent and appropriate note was struck by reproductinos of Bairnsfather’s drawings ably portrayed by Mr G. 11. Davis, chairman of the Papakura branch. The orchestral ! stage was artistically decorated with ! spring foliage relieved with bowls of beautiful hand painted lilies in tonings of red, white and blue, the work of Mrs G. 11. Davis. The supper room also presented an attractive and varied scene. Here again the harmonising .effects were original and individual and showed well conceived taste. Four sittings* were necessary to accommodate the large attendance. The tables were tastefully adorned with spring blooms, white paper serviettes edged with red and blue added lo the effect. Music was supplied by the orchestra of H.M.S. Achilles. A well-bal-anced programme of modern and oldtime dancing found popular appeal with the dancers. The guests were received by Mr G. H. Davis, chairman of the branch, and Mrs Davis, the latter wearing black Chantilly lace and cire satin.
