MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.
48 NEW MEMBERS. FIVE RESIGNATIONS. The executive of tiie Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society met on Friday evening- when there were present: Messrs W. J. D. Sharp (president), J. Fulton, _C. E. Walter, R. Schlaepfer, A. Be'st, N. Stuart, G. F. Mclnnes, J. W. Robinson, J. Reynolds, W. M. Reynolds, F. J. Morrow, P. T. Field, R. Ewing, D. R. Hamilton, C. Lauer, A. J. Raynes, A. J. Harris, G. R. Fulton, W. Collie, W. C. Morris, R. C. Clark and G. R. Basham (secretary). An apology for absence was received from Mr Geo. Carter.
The secretary of the Whangarei A. and P. Society (Mr G. P. Butler), and the secretary of the Bay of Plenty Association (Mr Russell Hall), both of whom were present at the recent Franklin show, wrote congratulating the society on the splendid exhibition and thanked it for courtesies and assistance rendered. The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants was permitted to use the showgrounds for their annual picnic. An Application Declined. An application for the use of a loose box at the showground for a horse was declined on the grounds that the grounds had already been leased. The Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand asked for remits for the 1938 conference. It was decided to forward a remit similar to that of last year that for voting purposes of A. and P. Associations at conferences the basis he on the amount of subscription paid.—lt was stated ‘by Mr A. Best that members who paid a subscription of £1 Is had the same voting power as a society which paid £2O; the Franklin society’s subscription being £6. The remit is also to be forwarded to the Northern District Council of the Royal Agricultural Society which meets on June 3. It was decided to apply for February 17 and 18 as the dates for the 1939 show. Messrs W. J. D. Sharp and G. E. Walter were appointed the society’s delegates to the conference of the Northern District Council. Mr G. A. Wood, Karaka, whose daughter won the cup for the champion calf at the recent show, intimated that lie would be prepared to donate a cup for competition for next year to replace that won by his daughter.—Mr Wood’s offer was accepted with thanks. Accounts totalling £516 4s Id were passed for payment.
It was decided to vote £2 2s to the Pukekohe branch of the St. John Ambulance.
Forty-eight new members were elected and live resignations were accepted. Thanks were accorded judges, officials and everybody who assisted in any way in connection with the recent show.
The president personally thanked members of the executive for the assistance they gave him on the occasion of the 1938 show. “I have never worked with a better team of willing helpers,” remarked Mr Sharp. “My thanks go to all who assisted, not forgetting the boys of Wesley College,” he added.
