Pretty Wedding at Otahuhu Church.

POPULAR COUPLE MARRIED

IRWIN—NIELD. i LAST MONTH’S CEREMONY. A very pretty wedding of widespread interest was solemnised at the Methodist church, Otahuhu, on Saturday, September 26, when Mary Elizabeth, only daughter, of Mr and Mrs Charles Walton Nield of Otahuhu, was joined in holy wedlock to Herbert King (Menzie), eldest son of Mr H. K. Irwin and the late Mrs Irwin of Patumahoe. The Rev. Percy Cooke officiated and Mrs J. Fletcher Matthews presided at the organ.

The church had been tastefully decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a beautiful gown of magnolia satin, cut on slimming lines. The bodice was finished with a cowl neck and close fitting sleeves. The skirt fell from a wide godet at the hack into a graceful train. The stylish simplicity of the gown was relieved with a spray of orange blossoms at the waistline. A beautifully embroidered veil, held in position by a wreath of orange blossoms, formed a second train. A sheaf of arum lilies completed a charming toilet.

The bridesmaid, Miss. Vera Irwin, sister of the bridegroom, wore a pale pink angelskin lace frock cut on slimming lines and relieved with a spray of pink orchids. The frock was slightly flared in front to form a train at the back. She wore , a silver lame and tulle hat trimmed with pink velvet flowers. A sheaf of deep pink gladioli completed her attire. Two small flower girls, lima Nield. cousin of the bride, and Dawn Bellingham, niece of the bridegroom, were both frocked alike in princess frocks of pale pink satin with an overdress of frilled net. They carried posies of pink sweet peas and primroses.

On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe. Mr Walton Nield acted as best man and Mr Arthur Nield and Mr Dick Irwin as ushers at the church, where seating accommodation was taxed to the utmost, showing the popularity in which the young couple are held. The reception was held at the Methodist hall where the bride’s mother, wearing a navy ensemble, and smart navy hat and a shoulder spray of apricot and blue flowers, assisted by Mrs W. Bellingham, sister of the bridegroom wearing a navy ensemble with scarlet shoulder spray, received the many guests. The three-tiered wed-ding-cake was beautifully decorated, the decorations including a spray which had adorned the cake on the occasion of the wedding of the bride’s mother.

Among those present were the bride’s grandmother, Mrs T. Nield of Aratapu, who was gowned in black satin ensemble and carried a posy cf violet anemones, relatives from the north and many friends from Patumahoe and Pukekohe districts. After the reception the bride and bridgegroom left by car on an extended trip of the North Island. The bride travelled in a smart navy and white ensemble with hat, shoes and gloves to match. Many beautiful and useful gifts were received, also several substantial cheques. Many congratulations were received including a cablegram from England. In the evening Mr and Mrs Arthur Nield entertained relatives and old friends of the family at their home in Moa street when a happy time was spent.

The bridegroom’s gift to the bridesmaid was a gold wristlet watch and to the flower girls gold armlets.

Mr and Mrs Irwin have taken up their residence aT Karaka.
