Women’s Division of The Farmers’ Union.

WAITEMATA EXECUTIVE. QUARTERLY MEETING HELD. COUNTRY GIRLS’ WEEK. The quarterly meeting of the Waitemata provincial executive of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Farmers’ Trading Company’s boardroom on Friday Mrs Noel; P. Adams presided over 45 delegates. An from the Farmers’ Union to join with the union in entertaining the party of English and South African farmers shortly to arrive in. Auckland was accepted. In -connection with, the boy nominated by the executive for admission to Flock House, it was decided that all necessary arrangements should be left to division headquarters, and that Waitemata contributions toward the cost of outfit and incidental expenses should be forwarded to headquarters in a lump sum. An inquiry as to the financial assistance which could be given by the division toward the establishment of trades schools was discussed, and. it was decided that,-while ; the matter had the warm support of the division, it would not be possible; to give-monetary help. The date of the executive birthday; party, which will be held at the Auck-, land Domain, was fixed for March 20.

Country Girls* Week. A request from the Auckland Federation of Women’s Institutes that it should co-operate with the division in the Country Girls’ Educational Week to be held in Auckland in the winter, was unanimously agreed to, and a committee to work with representatives ; o.f. the women’s institutes was set up.

The housekeeping report was read by the housekeeping secretary, Mrs Bryan, who stated that 21 applications had been filled for the. quarter. Financial statements showing a satisfactory position in both housekeeping and general accounts were received. Members received with regret Mrs Bryan’s notice that she would be unable to accept nomination for a further term of office as honorary housekeeping secretary. . A scheme which was designed to simplify the work of the housekeeping secretary was outlined by Mrs Adams.

"A proposal by Mrs R. G .Clark that the executive groups should be raised to sub-provincial status was lost. Many matters affecting internal administration were dealt with, and it was reported-that. the necessary arrangements had been made to enable branches of the executive to join the British Drama League for the use of the library at a nominal fee. Amalgamation Matters. At the conclusion of business an inj teresting report of the Dominion exj ecutive meeting recently held in Hamilton was given by Mrs Adams. The administration of the housekeeping scheme, she said, had been thoroughly discussed and good headway made. An interesting change of feeling on the question of amalgamation with the women’s institutes had been shown and it had been decided to request the women’s institutes to set up a com- ( mittee to confer with the Women's I Division Advisory Board in the matter. 1 The needs for reducing the number of remits to be dealt with had again been evident, and Mrs Adams approved i the new policy in educational matters : of advising members to work more ; through their local school committees and less through the method of remits to conference. Mrs Adams made a ' plea for the conserving of Tlivision funds for the special work of helping country women, both through the housekeeping scheme and in other ‘ways. To do one job well was better than to dabble in a large number ■ of good works, she said.
