PUKEKOHE COMPETITION.

SECOND SERIES OF GAMES.

START LAST SATURDAY. The second series of matches conducted by the Pukekohe Crioket Association commenced on Saturday in perfect weather conditions. The best batting and bowling performances were:— Batting. L. Johnson (Tuakau), 98. C. Goldsworthy (Waiau Pa), 34, C. Lewrie (Colts), 32*. J. Pbtier (Tuakau), 26. ‘Signifies not out. Bowling. A. Hewitt (Colts), 5' for 18. C. Cooper "(Mauku), 4 for 12. Hardy (Mauku), 4 lor 22. W. Sampson (Waiuku), 3 for 12. W. Branch (United), 3 for 18. A. Harvey (Colts), 3 for 21. Bell (United), 3 for 38. H. Pleydell (United), 3 for 50.

UNITED v. TUAKAU

United and Tuakau tried conclusions at Bledisloe Park. Tuakau batted first, and thanks to a vigorous innings by Leo Johnson, compiled 179 runs. Johnson scored 98 before he placed one in Pleydell’s hands off Harwood’s bowling. He was extremely unfortunate in not registering the first century of the season in competition games. Johnson’s total included three sixes. Potier (26) and Pirret (10) were the only other Tuakau batsmen to reach double figures. Wally Branch, a Pukekohe primary schoolboy, emerged with the best bowling average for United, the lad bowling three overs for three wickets at a cost of .18 runs. United had compiled five runs without loss when stumps were lifted. Tuakau appears to be in a good position, and United will need to play aggressive cricket next Saturday to'stave off defeat on the first innings. Details are:— TUAKAU. —First Innings. J. Coster, b.
