MOVIE STAR BILLIE BARNES. “ONE EXCITING ADVENTURE.” An adventure which befel Billie Barnes upon her arrival in America is equally as thrilling as any of the incidents in her first starring picture, “One Exciting Adventure.” which will he screened for Hie last time at the Star theatre. Papakura. this evening. Miss Barnes came within an ace of spending her first night in America in prison. Scarcely an hour after she arrived (he beautiful actress was stopped by the police. They accused her of being a friend of Hie late desperado, John Dillinger. Only after long argument were they persuaded to let her continue her journey. Miss Barnes arrived in Universal City last May after a four days' voyage on the Aquitania. with nineteen pieces of baggage. She was wanted at once to act in “There’s Always To-morrow,” which was already in production. The cusloms speeded her baggage examination and she was rushed into a cab bound for the Newark Airport and a fast plane for the West Coast. On the way to the airport, the cab was halted by policemen and ordered to the side of the road. At that time the nationwide hunt for Dillinger was. at iis height. The officers had caught a glimpse of the rich red-gold hair of Miss Barnes and had mistaken her for Dillinger’s red headed girl friend. It was only after her escort., an official from Universal’s New York office, had explained who she was and showed her papers that the officers reluctantly let her pass.
