Women’s Division of The Farmers’ Union.

KARAKA BRANCH. The .May meeting of the Karaka branch of the women’s division was, presided over by the president, Mrs J. Wood. The secretary, Mrs Thickett, read a. loiter of thanks from Mrs N. P. Adams for the presents and good wishes which she and Colonel Adamehad received from the provincial executive prior to their departure on a world tour. Invitations were received from the Takanini and Ardmore branches to attend functions. Further members elected to .the general committee were; Mesdames H. Walters, Crow and Costar, jnr. Mrs R. Slack was elected to the social committee, and Mrs Bolton to the exchange section in place of Mrs F. D.. Wood, who has resigned. It was decided that a small prizebe awarded each month for the competitions instead of a points prize, as.\ was the rule last year, and that the judging be by popular vote. The members also agreed to an annual subscription of is to the library. roll call was “My favourite flower and' why.”

Mrs Higham, a past president, made reference to the splendid work doneby Mrs R. Slack during the past year, and .presented her with a very pretty bouquet. Mrs Slack has during thelater part of the year successfully filled several positions. Mrs Higham also presented a bouquet to Mrs Hartley, who filled the position of secretary for several months during the year.

Miss Stubbs favoured the company with two appreciated vocal numbers. A demonstration of the various attachments used in connection with the sewing machine was followed with interest.

Prizes donated by Mesdames Slack, senior, W. Carpenter and Higham for the best collection of vegetables were •won by Mrs C. V. Grant, with Mrs G. A. Wood second and Mrs Bryant third.

Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Colquhoun, Hastie, C. V. Grant, Stubbs and Miss Colquhoun. Mrs Colquhoun’s group of the sewing circle provided the month's parcel of clothing.
