THE PATUMAHOE BRANCH.

ANNUAL MEETING HELD.

FOLLOWED BY REUNION

A large muster of members attended the annual meeting of the Patumahoe section of the Waiuku branch of the R.S.A. in the Patumalioe hall on Saturday evening

The chairman, Mr F. .!. Lownsborough, presided and in his report referred to the assistance the branch had

given in necessitous cases

The balance sheet showed an increase of funds on the previous year, mahily owdng to the sen “s of dances held at Mauku, Waiau Pa, and Patumahoe.

The following officers were elected for the ensuing year : Ghaumen, Mr F. J. Lownsborough (re-elected) ; secretary and treasurer, Mr M. Brooke; auditor, Me W. E. Johns (re-elected) ; committee, Messrs Corutinviute and Ward (Mauku), M.•Larin and Kettle (Waiau Pa), C. Brooke and M. Irwin

(Karaka), A. Woolsey and Hirstich (Patumahoe), all r ..-elected. , At the conclusion of i':e meeting a number of invited guests arnved from Waiuku, Pukekohe, Mauku. Waiau Pa and local district. The social room was packed to its full capacity and a very enjoyable evening was spent. Colonel M. Aldred president, of the Waiuku nranch, was an honoured guest and during the evening took the opportunity of explaining to visitors the good work the association was doing. He put forth an earnest appeal that every effort be made to see that no deserving returned soldier should be allowed to want, and urged that legislation should be passed to secure for returned men that assistance which would keep them from worldly distress. The following, program me was rendered during the evening:— Toast, “The King. ’ the chairman; address of welcome; community singing. the company; to u st, ‘ The R.5.A.,” Mr M. Bmoke —response by Col. M. Aldred; song, Mr Suckling; toast, “Absent Comrades,’’ Mr M Irwin —Mr Woolsey responded: recitation, Mr F. O’Hara; song, Mr G. Brooke; toast, “The Visitors,” Mr W. E. Johns —response by 'Mr C. Short; sketch, Mr Wilkinson; toast, “Tne Ladies," Mr M. Brown—Mr C. Brookf. responded on behalf of the “fair sex”: song,. Mr r. Blandfotd: rcc.itul ion® were given also by Mr Beloe, Mr L. Raynes and one of the diggers present led community singing with aceordeon accompaniment. .Mr Donnelly presided at the piano.

The chairman called fee a vote of thanks to performers and to those who helped towards the success of the entertainment. This was given with prolonged applause. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem brought to a close a memorable gathering.
