COLLEGE ENTRANCE EXAM. TUITION AT HIGH SCHOOL. A PARENT COMPLAINS. Sir, —The results of the Training College Entrance Examination are out. Two girls from Pukekohe Technical High School got partial passes, and at least one other pupil sat for one subject in the same examination and failed in it. Elocution and drawing are two subjects in the syllabus for the above examination and the students from our local high school were allowed to .sit without having one lesson in either subject. Now, I think —and I know of other parents of Hie same mind —that this is an undesirable state of affairs, and one that requires looking into by the Board of Managers. A considerable number of children are sent to the high school with a definite object in view, and in many cases at great sacrifice to the parents, but their efforts are wasted when such things as the above are allowed to take place. I could mention other good reasons for complaint in the conduct of the high school, but will confine myself in the hope that .those in control will see this letter and take steps to have matters rectified, so that in future when pupils sit for examinations they will have every chance of getting a full pass and not, as in the recent examination, no chance at all. —I am, etc., “PARENT.”
