Lawn Tennis in The Franklin District.

ASSOCIATION MATCHES.

SECOND SERIES PLAYED. SATURDAY’S RESULTS. The second series of matches in the Franklin Lawn Tennis Association’s .inter-club competitions took place on Saturday. Over 30 teams met in the three .grades, and under perfect weather conditions many excellent games were player. In the A grade, group 11, Tuakau beat Pukekohe A by seven matches to three. This was a well ■deserved win, the Tuakau ladies being responsible for a fine performance in winning practically all their matches. At Pukekohe East, Pukekohe B team scored a somewhat unexpectedly easy win by eight matches to two. Here again, the ladies made a clean, sweep, and the only East players to hold their end up were the welltried Papesch brothers. St. James’ scored a meritorious wM over Onewhero by six matches to four, and must be congratulated on a sound performance. Miss Rose Lawrie’s win over Miss Gathcart came, somewhat as a surprise, and should encourage her to still greater efforts. In group 1, West End-Hill had an easy win over Bombay by nine matches to one. Waiuku and Aka Aka, the two unbeaten teams, played a drawn game, five matches each and 84 games aIL With the exception of the first ladies’ singles, which was won by Mrs Allen Wright, 9 —o, all the matches were well fought out, and either side would have been unlucky to lose.
