Franklin County Council Affairs.

ANNUAL MEETING HELD. GENERAL BUSINESS VALUATION OF LANDS. The Franklin County Council held its annual meeting on Wednesday, there being present: Mr J. N. Massey, M.P. (chairman), Crs. M. Aldred, H. P'. Garland, G. Dickey, A. R. T. Urquhart, J. Matheson, J. Henry, J. Dean, H. J. Flay, H. Wilcox, Mr Alan P. Day (clerk) and Mr ,T. F. McArthur (engineer).

Circulars were received from the valuation department advising that under the amendment of last year it was proposed to issue the council with a copy of each new valuation applied for,''and showing the date up to which an objection could be lodged; also setting out the provisions enabling the council to talce action for the minimising of the inequality in rating, caused by special valuations made in applications of owners. / In regard to future applications to the No. 2 Licensing Authority for transport licenses, it was decided that if the sitting of the authority took place between council meetings that the chairman take what action he considered necessary. >

Graham’s Beach Road. Mrs C. Evans, Graham’s ' beach, wrote pointing out the necessity to enlarge ithe culvert under the road to her property owing to flooding.—A reply is to be sent that the work cannot be undertaken at present.

Mr S. Bonnar, complained of the condition of; Dickey-Gleeson road. —It was reported that repairs were being carried out.

The Taitimu Settlers’ Association asked that a traverse line be run over the proposed new road to Graham’s beach an estimate of the cost be forwarded. It also enquired whether the metalling of, Graham’s beach hill could be undertaken now that the central road was completed. —lt was decided that as no funds were available the metalling could not be done, ii being portion of a loan proposal - the subsidy for which had not been received. As to the survey, the council was first awaiting the report being made to the Minister of Public Works.

A request deferred from a previous meeting,, that two water troughs be placed on the Awhitu-Waiuku road for travelling stock was referred to Gr. Dickey and the engineer with power to act. •, ■

Mr A. T. Driffll and seven other residents of Ramarama asked that un ■ employed be placed on the removal of willows from a stream for at least half a mile below the Pukekohe East road. —Deferred until next season.

At the request of the lands department, it was agreed to .declare that a piece of road in allotment 11, Hunua parish, had been in public use, was formed and metalled, been maintained out of public funds, and had public moneys spent on it. Mrs Pare Mita Clarice and five othother- native owners of land in the Whatapaka block, Karaka, asked that road access be provided. The rnattei was deferred* for two months as the council was not prepared to spend money in providing a .road to nonrateable property.

Mr W. Lee, Auckland, intimated that he had purchased 3*64 acres at the up- , per end of Mangatawhiri Valley, and asked that the road be formed. Left ' to Cr. Dean and the engineer to in - spect. j Mr Whetu Kingi, Waiuku, com- ' plained that his property was being flooded as the result of a neighbour s drain being blocked. Referred to Cr. 1 Aldred and the engineer, i Mr W. Rasmussen, Aka Aka. asked ! for permission to dig a drain from the : Western drain to high land along hrs i boundary, such drain to be on the , roadside and about three feet.—Grantj ed ■ Mr R. Archibald, Papakura, asked ! for an improvement to the entrance to his property.— Left to the riding member and the engineer.
