A FRIENDLY MATCH. RAILWAY (PAPAKURA) AND KARAKA SOUTH. ’

A WIN FOR KARAKA

The Karaka South tennis team visited Papakura on Saturday last. The weather was ideal until the last sets were being played when the clouds gathered ominously. However, the rain did not fall until about five minutes after the match was completed. Details are as follow, Papakura names first: —

The win of Karaka by nine sets to five did not truly reflect the general play. Most of the sets were strenuously fought and deuce games were the rule. The sensation of the day was the appearance on the courts of a male member of the visiting team in shorts. This young gentleman braved a good deal of good humoured wit. However, the weather was very hoi. and he had the last laugh. The ladlies of the home team provided a most excellent afternoon tea and the usual speeches concluded a very enjoyable afternoon’s sport. A return match is to be played at an early date.
