NO DAMAGE REPORTED. CROPS AND PASTURES BENEFIT. The heavy ruin experienced during the past week has given the countryside a thorough soaking and as a result pastures and crops should benefil considerably. Already pastures are beginning to respond and growth should he fairly rapid from now on.

Yesterday morning broke fine after heavy rain late on Saturday night and in the early hours of Sunday morning, hut shortly after mid-day yesterday heavy rain clouds gathered in the south east, and rain fell in mid-after-noon and continued pretty well throughout last night. During the night a howling south easterly sprang up. accompanied by torrential rain. It. was sufficiently violent to rouse many householders from their peaceful slumbers. Some thought window panes would not resist the force of the wind. It was still raining at daybreak to-day and continued until midday when the eastern sky became brighter as the rain clouds dispersed. Not a great deal of damage has been reported although gardens and field crops suffered somewhat, from the force of the wind.

From reports received from correspondents the. rain was general in the Franklin district.

No damage has been reported to the engineer of the Franklin County Council, and up to mid-day to-day all watercourses had been able to cope with the volume of water, and flooding of the main highway had not occurred at Manga tawhiri.
