GOLF CLUB’S BALL
A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. JOLLY EVENING SPENT. A gaily decorated ballroom and stage coupled with some rather extraordinary antics by members of a bright and breezy orchestra, made the Papakura Golf Club’s annual ball, last evening, a very gay function. The. attendance was good, but perhaps hardly as large as the last two previous balls. The decorations consisted of blue and gold streamers on the stage with a nice variety of flowers and greenery. Overhanging the dancers in the ball room were suspended lines of coloured streamers and round the walls were tastefully placed greenery. The Columbia orchestra of six instruments provided many novelty tit bits, a small megaphone and a gold painted bun hat, together with vocal efforts by the leader provided something a little out of the ordinary. The decorations on the supper tables call for special mention. The tables had a profusion of beautiful flowers tastefully arranged on them including daffodils, irises, asters, iceland poppies, marigolds, jonquils. These were admirably set off by sprays of nandina. Just before the supper interval a supply of paper caps and squeakers was liberated by the leader of the band. The scramble that followed was reminiscent of a bargain sale in the city. Special mention should be made of the following who were responsible for the excellent arrangements which contributed so much to the success of the ball: Mesdames TL Walters, W. A. Pavitt, Urquhart, Yates. Brooks. Lock. T. McLennan, D. McLennan. Foote and Miss Wilkins and Messrs Pavitt, Watts. Robbins and Elliott. ' Many visitors were present from the city and surrounding clubs.
