A Favourite Fashion

Nearly every ensemble combines two colours, even though the second may only be just one bright flash. As in the case of the traditional black and white (now counted as one colour) with a small scarlet wing in the hat, or a stripe in the scarf, or a belt that is black, white and red. Grey with red is also popular, both in the jewel shades of ruby and garnet, but even more general is the frankly scarlet shade which is very youthful with the paler shades of grey.. This touch of red is sometimes the tiniest roll collar or a buttoned tab, or a twisted rope that finishes with a bow on one shoulder. Subtlety should be the keynote of colour com- j binations. Another favourite fashion brings a J ; touch of brown into a beige ensemble, and the only other colour with j this arrangement should be intro- i duced by means of jewels, such as j the fashionable copper buckles, or I necklace, or bracelets, and then only i sparingly used. The all-black dress ! is livened by a flash of green (especially chartreuse shade), scarlet, or turquoise blue. Imagine how becoming a scarf of soft turquoise blue velvet cut on the cross and laid about the throat can be, or again, the swathed sash, half black crepe and half turquoise blue, but not the scarf and the sash on one gown. Speaking of pale blue; it has become quite a craze amongst chic Parisiennes, and one which will last ! well into the spring—to wear some pale blue with black and dark brown. In London at a society wedding the lovely Countess Howe crowned her [ golden head with a turban cap of ! sky-blue velvet, exactly matching her { eyes. Another smart woman in black broadtail coat and tiny beret of the ' fur had a scarf of sky blue velvet draped cowl-fashion round her throat, but one could only catch a glimpse of blue hiding behind a huge collar of silver fox.
