GOLF NOTES.

PUKEKOHE LINKS OPENED. A BRILLIANT FUNCTION. The Pukekohe "Golf Club opened its winter season on Saturday under ideal conditions, upwards of 100 being present. These included visitors from Auckland, Huntly, Papakura, Onewhero, Otahuhu, Mangatawhiri, Manukau, and Waiuku. The scene as viewed from the entrance to the Franklin Racing Club's beautiful grounds on which the golf course is situated, was a very animated one, every green and fairway being occupied by players engaged in the competition for the day and these players in their strikingly-coloured blazers and dresses presented a brilliant spectacle.

The president, Mr James Roulston. welcomed the visitors and trusted they would have a happy clay. He also extended a welcome to new members and assured them they would never regret 'the decision they had made to make golf their winter pastime. By joining the club they would also help to offset the great loss sustained by a number of valuable members leaving the district. Continuing, the president considered the prospects for the coming season were particularly bright. A very strong and capable executive had been elected. Considering the times, the financial position was extremely satisfactory and under the care and attention of Mr Dan Coyle the course was in splendid playing condition. In declaring the season open, Mr Roulston wished all the other clubs in Franklin a very enjoyable and successful season. He commented on the friendly spirit existing between Pukekohe and the other clubs, the members of which were looking forward to meeting them in many friendly contests during the coming season. Mr Roulston then presented the following trophies won during the summer and also for the foursome played that day:—
