What Insurance Companies Did.

"I want the board to notice this. It, cost the board £3 12s to visit this man's property," said Mr D. Weir at Monday evening's meeting of the town board in referring to a recent outbreak of fire which was attended by the brigade. The membership of the Papakura branch of the Franklin Returned Soldiers' Association was given as 130 at Wednesday's annual meeting, by Mr S. D. Rice, who said there was still much distress amongst returned men. He made a strong appeal to those returned men outside the association who were perhaps apathetic or indifferent, to link up with the branch and help the good work being carried on. BigAnzac Day Parade Promised.

The president of the Papakura Returned Soldiers' Association, Mr S. D. Rice, speaking - of Anzac Day at the annual meeting of the branch, said he would like to know how many would parade. On the question being put everybody in the hall promised to turn out. An endeavour is to be made to get the services of a band, and failing a band, a piper. Hitherto the Anzac nay service has been left to the local body, said Mr Rice, but this year the branch had been invited by the town board to confer with it on the subject. Two men would be chosen from the executive. Dress for the parade would be mufti and decorations. Mr T. C. Seaton was asked if he would conduct the singing and consented. Stock Drovmg. ' Information as to the driving of stock, the subject or recent, complaints, was received by the Papakura Town Board on Monday evening in answer to letters forwarded. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency advised that it had passed on the board's letter to its Papakura agent, who had instructions to ensure that rlrovers employed on behalf of clients had instructions accordingly. Palgety and Company replied that the information had been passed on to agents and to drovers. R. and YV. Hellaby Ltd. intimated that if its drovers did no| observe the board's bylaws, very definite action would be taken. The Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company wrote slating thai stock was not bought by the company, and in consequence it had no control over stock being driven in its works for killing and freezing.

Proposed Club Turned Down. Mr Agmen Smith, representing a . committee set up to make enquiries regarding the establishment or a re--1 turned soldiers' club in Papakura, stated at Wednesday's annual meeting that; the committee had visited several places and selected one central building which they thought was suitable. Out of Alignment

In connection with the proposed alteration at the northern boundary, the town board on .Monday evening decided to advise the Auckland Electric-power Board that one of its power poles was out of alignment.
