TOWN BOARD.
MEETING ON TUESDAY. j GENERAL BUSINESS. j The monthly meeting of the Tua- ! kau Town Board was held on Tuesday evening, there being present: I Messrs W. J. Taylor (chairman), E. W. i Fielder, S. 11. Crawford, J. J. Drom- I j gool, G. N. Asher, W. J. Deeble and ! M. R. D. McGahan (clerk). An apology . for absence was received from Mr G. i Arrowsmith. | The Tuakau sub-branch of the , Franklin Plunket Society wrote ac- I knowledging the receipt of a donation i of £lO toward the maintenance of the j rest room.—Received. ! The Minister of Employment for- ! warded particulars of a scheme to ' facilitate the growing of vegetables by ' unemployed as a means of providing a part of the sustenance for them- i selves and dependants, and asked the I board to assist in every way possible. —The chairman said there were only three men on the No. 5 scheme and J each grew his own vegetables. An j area vested in the town board could be j used, if necessary. j An application by an Auckland firm j of solicitors for a remission of the penalty on rates was declined, the j chairman remarking that the owners of the land were in a fair financial posi- j tion.
The Franklin County Council advis-
ed that it was not applying this ye tr for the declaration of Harrisville road as a main highway, but was applying for the Pukekohe East-Runciman road to be declared as such owing to the fact that the maintenance charges were heavy.—Received.
Mr M. A. Gruiokshank wrote pointing out the necessity for further metal on the upper portion of Cole's road. Recent patching of .holes in the present metal had been appreciated by users. If the surface could be extended with some 20 yards of metal, as previously agreed on by the board, an all-weather track would be provided over the' worst portion.—The chairman said he thought £l2 had been expended on the road recently. The work could, perhaps, be undertaken later. —On the motion of Mr Asher it was decided to supply 10 cubic yards of metal.
Condition of a Road. Mr A. B. Scott drew attention to the condition of Jellicoe road, especially at his entrance. As access was practically impossible, he asked that the metal be continued as far as his gate, or failing that about two chains in front of the gate would allow him access.—Deferred until next meeting. A deputation comprising Messrs T. Morgan and C. Lockery asked that three or four cubic yards of metal be supplied for the road at the rear of the Anglican church. —The chairman intimated that the request would be considered later. It was decided to reduce the insurance on the town hall from £4200 <,o £2OOO, the policy on the contents to remain as at present. The chairman reported that arrangements had been made to place the Waikato river bridge loan money on fixed deposit until such time as required. It was reported that the metalling of the road alongside the Catholic church and Jellicoe avenue had been . completed satisfactorily. ! It was agreed to attend to the ques- ! tion of installing an electric light on Gibson road. The question of further metal for Harrisville road was referred to Messrs Arrowsmith and Deeble. Accounts totalling £844 12s 7d were passed for payment. ; FOREMAN'S REPORT. !
