MAUKU NOTES.

VALEDICTORY. MR AND MRS W, F. DAVIES. On Tuesday evening over 40 residents ol'Mauku representing St. Bride's church, the hall committee : and the school committee met at Mr Cutfield's residence for the purpose of bidding farewell to Mr and Mrs W. F. Davies, sold their farm and are takresidence .shortly at Manubehalf of the residents and various organisations with, which they had been connected, the' Rev. W. E. Connolly presented Mr and Mrs Davies with a silver tea pot and hot water jug, and Miss Davies with, two handsome books.

Mr Connolly referred briefly to Mr Davies' long service in connection with. St. Bride's church and his general interest in all activities for. the social welfare of the district. For the past three years he had been secretary, of the school committee and was a member of the hall committee from its nception.

Mr Davies suitably . replied and thanked one and all. for the very .fine gifts ;and expressions' of appreciation. An exceedingly pleasant social evening was enjoyed. Several .competitions proved, both amusing and. entertaining. Vocal, items were rendered by Mrs W. F *'. Davies and Messrs. W. D. West, C. and L. Clarke. Miss Ena Davies, who is always a favourite, recited. Supper' brought a very successful function to a happy conclusion. A ping-pong tournament was won by Mr G. Willis, with Miss Irwin as runner-up. The thanks of the committee are due to Mr and Mrs Cutfleld who placed their residence at their disposal
