TENNIS CLUB'S DANCE

MOST ENJOYABLE FUNCTION

The Clevedon Tennis Club held a very enjoyable dance in the public hall last week. Clarke's orchestra provided the music and Mr D. Ryburn was an efficient M.G. Supper was provided by lady members of the club. The Clevedon Troop of Boy Scouts held a field day on Saturday at Mr A. MeNicol's racecourse paddock. The scouts are shortly changing I heir time of meeting from Saturday afternoon to Friday evening. This will suit most of the scouts better than the present arrangements and will still enable the I keenest to meet on Saturdays for out of door work. LAWN TENNIS CLUB. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of Clevedon Tennis Club was held in the public hall on Monday night when Mr A. D. Bell presided over a good attendance of members. The report recorded a successful and prosperous year During the season seventeen new members were admitted to the club, eleven left for various reasons, making a total of 54, Ibis being an increase of six over the previous year. Finance: A balance was brought forward from last year and with the receipts for the year a satisfactory total was received. £25 was paid

off the loan of £SO and after paying current expenses a balance was carried forward, the only liability outstanding being the £25 of loan.

Club matches: In the inter-club matches in the Outer Suburban Association the senior team played five matches, losing three, winning two and gaining two others by default, making a total of four wins and three losses. The junior team played six matches, losing two, winning four and gaining two others by default, total six wins and two losses. Competitions: A number of players competed in the Outer Suburban and G. Grade and Franklin championships, all of them acquitting themselves well, j Mr G. Stephens won the Outer Subur- j ban and G grade men's singles cham- I pionship. The result, of local torn. 1 - j naments were as follow: Men's handi- I cap singles, Mr G. Stephens; ladies' j handicap singles, Miss B. Wells: men's handicap doubles, Messrs S. Bell and R. G. Stephens. I

The Challenge Stars provoked considerable competition, there being being eleven challenges played.

Social: A dance held in aid of club funds resulted in a net gain of £3 lis Id.

Courts Play Excellently. Grounds: The three courts whicl were laidMown with 'Distar" rendered excellent playing and are in gooc condition though one requires levelling. Your committee has been enquiring into prices with a view of having the other two courts similarly treated. By voluntary labour the rest of the grounds were cleaned up and the two chip courts maintained. By kind permission of Mrs Wallis, a pine tree on her property %vas felled. this doing away with Liie nuisane of pine needles t and shadows on the courts.
