THE WORK IN FRANKLIN.
ENGINEER’S REPORT.
’ The engineer, Mr L. G. Sharp, pre- ’ sented the following report at yester- ■ day’s meeting of the Franklin Electric- ’ power Board. ’ New lines livened: The first section of the Pukekawa extension was livened on May 3. A short length of high tension line and one transformer on the Paerata-Runciman road was livened on May IG. Line construction work: One and a half miles of 11,000 volt, and threequarters of a mile of low tension wiring together with the erection of two transformer substations 'have been completed at Pukekawa. ‘“A ‘ short 11,000 volt extension on the PaerataRunciman road consisting of 10 main line poles, 70 chains of wiring and one transformer has been built. Additional low tension lines have been erected as follows:—Patumahoe, 10 poles, 40 chains; Hull’s road, 5 poles, 20 chains; Runciman, 2 poles, 8 chains; , To Hihi, 30 chains; Rama Rama, 40 chains. Two street lamps have been , erected opposite the Aka Aka factory j for the use of relief workers in camp, j The existing galvanised wire on the Mangatawhiri main line has been dis- j mantled and copper wire erected as j far as Raymond’s corner, the remain- j ing half mile having been finished -«n j May 1. New Lines. j New service lines have been erected i at Pukekawa, Waiuku, Runciman, j Rama Rama, Te Hihi, Waipipi, Paerata, j Karaka, Papakura, Glenbrook, Puke- j kohe, Buckland, Patumahoe, Red Hill — ! a total of 33 services, requiring 29 ( poles. | Lines maintenance: In addition to! the inspection of lines the following , work has been done:—Changed the oil j in six transformers in Waipipi, Puke- j kohe and Mangatawhiri; doubled wire on Hamilton’s road, Karaka; anchored poles along Aka Aka where widening of drain has' weakened ground; painted , street light brackets in Waiuku; paint- j ed ironwork on Opaheke lines: erected three new isolating switches on main Patumahoe-Waiuku line in place j of old type switches which were giv- j ing trouble. ' Installations: During the month 16, applications have been received for! new installations and 51 permits have , been issued for new work and addi- , tions. The principal aditions to the load are :—Milking motors, 6; flat,rate j pumps, 3; ranges, 8; waterheaters, 11. Maintenance service: The complaints attended from Pukekohe Depot are shown below: Fuses and small faults, 4 75; check meters and adjustments, 6; i range cqniplaints, 19,; ;waterheater t complaihtfe; 32; power meters installed V 23; appliances repaired on jobs, 55; appliances!, repaired at depot, 10; removals and disconnections, 43; overdue accounts collected, 28. Power , supply interference: The most serious interruption which has > been experienced this year occurred on \ May 12, when due to lightning dam- j, aging some of the switch gear at j' Arapuni the board was without power > j from 10.15 a.m. to 12 noon. The 'j . question of such a long shut down has j ( been taken up with the Public Works , . Department in order to obtain their j' assurance that the supply of power will J be restored as promptly as it is to L neighbouring boards. ‘ ‘
