PONSONBY DEFEATED.

PAPAKURA’S SIX-POINT WIN

The Papakura cricket club registered its first six-point win of the season by defeating Ponsonby by an innings and 79 runs. When the match was resumed on Saturday the nol out men, Beechey (52), and Hastie (6), immediately got to work to get runs, the captain in particular playing good' forcing cricket. Just as he appeared set to register the first century of the season lie failed to get property under one and was out to a good catch at deep mid-on. Nevertheless bis innings was a fine effort and lie scored in good time. Humphreys, who was absent on the first day, took bis place on Saturday and helped the score along with a very useful 39 scored in this player’s characteristic style. Ferguson (13), Hammond (13), L AVilson (11), and G. Wlison (10) all helped towards the respectable total of 205.

Requiring 116 runs to avoid an innings defeat, Ponsonby, though opening cautiously, never looked like getting tlie runs and were all dismissed for Hie poor total of 37. The local bowlers were on the spot throughout, Francis in particular being deadly Ilis figures were helped along by two beautiful catches on the leg side by Humphreys, who never kept wickets better. The fielding, though on the improve, bad some bad patches in it, and at least four chances were declined.
