CROQUET NOTES.

THE PUKEKOHE CLUB. ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. The annual general meeting of the Pukekohe Croquet Club was - held in the Bowling Club's pavilion on Wednesday afternoon, the president, Mrs C. K. Lawrie, presiding. Almost every member of the club was present. The president in her annual report stated that despite adverse circumstances throughout the year the past season had been most successful and enjoyable. In the early part of the season the attendance on the lawns was marred by unpropitious weather, while toward Ihe latter part illness among members and their families also; militated against good attendance, consequently there was less play than i usual. The finances were in a ! healthy condition, the club's funds beI ing augmented by proceeds from card evenings inaugurated by the president and vice-presidents. These evenings were well attended and thorough--1: enjoyed. Competitions held during the season were for the South Suburban Association's A and B grade cups and the club competition for the Ayrshire cup. Gratification was expressed that Ihe club's team had carried off the A cup for the sixth consecutive year and the club was run-ner-up to Tuakau in the competition for B grade players. It was unfortunate that the B team had to forfeit a match, otherwise it would probably have made the team the winner for the second time. . The Ayrshire cup was competed for by teams under the captaincy of Mesdames Webb and Ingpen. Mrs Ingpen's team scored the greatest number of points and- won the cup.

"At Home" at Pukekohe. The report referred to the function held a I Pukekohe at which the president of the South Suburban Croquet Association, Mrs C. C. Munro, presented the club with the associations cup, and the "at home" held on April 15 when visitors were present from Papatoetoe, Mauku, Waiuku, Buckland and Tuakau clubs. Both functions were successful and enjoyable, and the president extended her personal thanks to all who helped to achieve success. As a result of the "at home" the club's funds were augmented by £6. The membership comprised 20 playing and two honorary members. The season was closed officially on May 30 when a progressive croquet afternoon was to have been held, hut unfortunately there was no play owing to the. climatic conditions. Owing to the date of the commencement of the South Suburban tournament being unsuitable to Pukekohe, none of the club members took part. On the King's birthday the president, entertained the members of the club on the lawns, the day proving highly successful. In conclusion the president expressed thanks to the secretary and members of the executive for their services during the year; the bowling club for the use of the pavilion; the Press, and Mr P,. Fitness for naking care of the greens from the closing day until June 3, free of charge. The balance sheet, showing a satisfactory financial position, was also presented and together with the report, was adopted.

The question of entering teams foi the South Suburban Association'? competitions was deferred until the next meeting.

Mesdames Armstrong and Middlemiss were appointed the respective captains of the Ayrshire cup teams. A decision was reached, after lengthy discussion, to remove the hedge between the two lawns, the work to be undertaken as soon as possible to enable the work of lop dressing the lawns to be proceeded with.

Six new members were elected. Arrangements were made to carry out a programme of card evenings during the winter months, and to hold a bridge and five hundred afternoon at an early date. Consideration of afternoon tea arrangements for the approaching season was deferred.
