HEARD AT MONDAY'S MEETING.
Notice to Clear Drain.
The decision was reached to serve notice to Mr R. Johns to clear a drain in his property within" 14 days. One Member's Views. .; : "In"passing it is- only fair to say Papakura is one of the lightest rated town boards in New Zealand."—Mr D.. Weir. Tar-Sealing Works. Tar-sealing work to be undertaken in the near future includes Wellington road and the Great South Road shoulStreet footpath, a portion of Wairoa ders. :•,■■■ Rates Struck. . In accordance with notice given, trie following rates were struck:—General rate, 59-6 id: Great South Road loan, 36-64 d; road loan, 11-64 d: water loan, 57-G4d; street lighting. 9-64 d; hospital, 20-64 d; total 3d. Hire of Tar-Sprayer..
The offer of Messrs Wright. Steptienson and Co., Ltd.. to hire a motor tar-sprayer on the basis of 9d for 45 gallons was accepted. The firm offered to forego the hire in the evSnt of the board deciding to purchase a sprayer at £75.
Young's Beach Reserve. The reserves committee stated it intended to carry- out further work on. this reserve, hut was not yet in a. position to report its intentions ds it desired to lay out a plan of work and. have estimates of the cost of the same prepared. Other Reserves. The committee further stated that consideration was being-given to improvements to the central reserve, corner of town hall property, northern boundary reserve. Memorial Park and Prince Edward Park. A definite report on the proposed work would he submitted at a later date. Services Appreciated.
The recommendation o( the finance committee that the board place on record appreciation of the services rendered by Miss Hammond during the period of absence of the clerk, owing to sickness, and that .i letu : r "conveying appreciation be forwarded io iter, was adopted. The committee further recommended that Ihe board pay Miss Hammond a bonus of £5 for services. rendered, and the board agreed. Street Light Authorised. On several occasions the people have had to appeal to the police to go down to the locality lo clear on. 1 , undesirables wiio hung about Lliere, stated the Rev. W. C. Wood in urging the necessity of a street light at the southern end of King Edward Avenue. Members agreed that one was necessary, and its erection at- the corner of Alexander street and King Edward Avenue was authorised.
