PRODUCTION IN N.Z.
AN INCREASE SHOWN. In the course of some remarks made recently, the member for Waitomo,' Mr W. J. Broadfoot, quoted the following in I cresting figures in regard to farming in' New. Zealand :
For the five years 1025-30, the volume of production in grass lands in New Zealand was £11,874,000 in excess of the production for the live years 1920-25. For the same period 1925-30 the area settled is only slightly in excess of the area occupied in five years 1920-25. This result was due to top-dressing improvement, in live stock and better methods of general farm management. "Tin's," said the speaker, "is off the already improved area. What a wonderful opportunity to increase production in our own district."
The grading of dairy produce showed an increase of 9.77 per cent. The average yield of fat per cow.- in .1919-20 was 149.81 b.; in 1928-29. 212.121 b. Dairy cows increased from 1919-20 196,850, in 1929 to 259,595. This increased production was very gratifying and every possible effort should he made to retain and improve the present high standard. '"There will," said- Mr Broadfoot. lie every co-operation between the department and the producer in the endeavour to increase the quality and Hie quantify of our produce."
