POKENO-PAEROA.

PROPOSED RAILWAY LINE. FURTHER REPRESENTATIONS. “We feel elated that something Is going to he done,” said Mr .T. Woodcock, of Pokeno, in speaking upon the subject of the proposed P'okeno-Paeroa railway at tin; half-yearly conference of Franklin Chambers of Commerce this afternoon. In moving the adoption of a remit urging the Government to proceed with the connecting link of railway between Pokeno and Paeroa. The subject, he said, had been given ample publicity and had been brought before Ministers of the Crown and Members of Parliament.

“We are thankful for the tone expressed at present,” he continued. With the present line there was a dead haulage of 40 miles and a loss of two hours in travelling time. Mr C. J. Leathern (Pokeno) seconded the motion and referred to the conference recently held in Auckland on the subject. He complimented Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., on the stand he had taken and the assistance rendered. Mr Lyons (Pokeno) stated that there was an unlimited supply of shingle at Mangatangi, which would he invaluable for use on the line. It would also fend to alleviate unemployment. The remit was unanimously adopted.
