P. AND T. BALL.

A BRILLIANT SUCCESS.

HEUOHf) ATTENDAN G K

An event that had been looked forward to for many weeks-—the Pukekohe Post and Telegraph hall—the jii-st of ils kind in Pukokohe arranged by this important branch of the public service, eventuated on Monday evening in the Premier Hall, and was a brilliant success from every point of view. The attendance constituted a record for a function of this nature, fully JBU couples occupying the spacious dancing arena. The accommodation was (daily inadequate, and at times mailers were very unpleasant for the trippers of (hi* light fantastic, hut they realised that all were present to enjoy themselves, and this they did. as every one entered into the tun of the evening in a jolly spirit. The floor was in fair condition, and splendid music was supplied by Hulmes full orchestra assisted by Mr M. R. Grierson .•violin). Extras were played by Misses i. Imuran. G. Fulton, I. Fulton, M. Puhnun and Mrs Torkar Palumahoe).

The duties of M.G.'s were very eificieniiy discharged by Messrs «... Mooney. I- Maxwell, K. Stevens, P. Minrher. ■!. Stitt, a.nd G. Narbey. The iiali was charmingly decorated with black and orange streamers suspended from the top of the stage to the base of the dress circle, supported in the centre by cross “beams,” while hung from these were oval shaped lattice work constructed in black and oramm. The walls and stage weic hidden with nikau fronds and other greenery* while the letters. “P. and T.” were emblazoned on a large placard himg from the top roller of the drop curtain over the stage. The decorations were indeed exquisite and were carried out under the supervision of .Viiss Nelsie Hawke, whose gift of originality was portrayed to a marked degree. Moreover, it may be mentioned that for some years past Miss Hawke has been responsible for the decorations of the hall for similar evenls, and not on a single occasion, have the decorations been similar. This alone verifies the opinion expressed regarding her gift of originality. A wide range of styles of dresses were worn by Ihe fair sex, the diverse colours enhancing the already pleasing effect created by the decorations. Shortly after 8.30 p.m. the orchestra struck up, and couples paraded for the grand march, which was led by the postmaster, Mr R. G. May, and the supervisor of the telephone exchange. Miss M. 13. Whitten, followed by the supervisor of the local post oiiice, Mr E. Maddison, and Mrs Maddison and guests, who included representatives from the post offices surrounding Pukekohe, and visitors from many parts of the Auckland province. Owing to the big attendance and the inadequate space, the M.C.'s were compelled, after the parade had commenced, to dismiss from their minds the idea of proceeding further, otherwise confusion would have result, and the march was abandoned.

The programme of dances contained a wide selection, and all classes of dances were catered for.

A dainty supper, provided by Messrs W. MacDliarson and Sons, was served on the stage, and greatly enhanced the success of the evening. The following committee were responsible for the * arrangements; Messrs R. G. May (chairman), C. T, Holden, J. Stitt, E. Maddison, R. D. Mayson. W. V. Aston, C. J. Mooney, O. P. Mincher. .1. Maxwell. 0. Churchill. J. Blake, W. 11. Evans. J. H. May, G. J. Narbey, Misses Whitton (bon. secretary), McCann, Kensington, and it deserves credit for the great success achieved. A special word of praise js due to the work of the untiring secretary, Miss Whitton. who left no stone unturned to make the evening a pleasant one. Summed up, the P. and T.
