NEW HEBRIDES.
DEPUTATION TO PRIME MINISTER.
WELLINGTON, August 12
The New Hebrides Irouble, which was brought before the Prime Minister recently by a deputation from missionary societies and churches, was again brought up in the House of Representatives to-day by Mr W. J. Jordan (Manukau). The member asked whether the Prime Minister, having heard of (he slavery and other cruelties inflicted on the natives of the New Hebrides by French traders, would communicate with a view of opening negoiiations with the French Government about the matter.
Mr Massey replied that he had made inquiries about affairs in the New Hebrides, He had told the deputation that, in his view, there was no other way out than the parttion of the group between Great Britain and France. He had asked the deputation for its opinion on this. He had not yet received it, though lie hardly expected it so soon. When the missionary organisations advised him lie would communicale with Ihe Imperial Government. As a matin’ of fact lie had already done so.
