Gzecho-Slovakia, which was played in London on June 14, ended in favour of the Czech team by sg-4£, although it appeared earlier that the British team might Jiave won by 64. In the second round Great Britain lost by 3;,-6£, making the final scores: Czechoslovakia 12, Britain 8. The British team was one of the strongest for several years, but disappointed its supporters by a pronencss to blunder. World championship developments await the July meeting of the FIDE. As yet Soviet Russia has not joined the international organisation,’ although wishing to lay down rules for determining Alekhine's successor. Some method, cither a tournament or elimination matches between the leading contenders, should be decided upon. And then definite rules for matches or tournaments at slated intervals should be agreed upon. Only in this way will (he next champion be forced to defend lliis t iI1,0 without requiring the chalienger to meet conditions, financial and otherwise, which in the past have made world championship matches too infrequent. —C.S.M.
