EXTENSION TO LIBRARY AT TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL PREPARED BY OLD BOYS
Proposals for the extension of the war memorial library at the Timaru' 'Boys’ High School as a trihut to old hoys who gave their lives in the recent war were explained to a gathering Of the Dunedin branch of the Old Boys' Association by the/president of the Timafu Association (Mr D. Coxhead) last evening. He showed a plan of a proposed new: wing to the huildifig, which would, be used for music and drama, and would seat 500 people. The estimated cost was £6,000, of which £I.OOO had already been raised jn Timaru. A general appeal to all old boys for, funds would be ’made in August. Mr Coxhead was replying to the toast of “The Parent Association,” which had been proposed by Mr A. ,G. Valantine. . The chairman (Mr A. O. McPherson) expressed the pleasure of . the Otago branch of the association on the result of the Rugby football match between the Otago and Timaru Boys’ High Schools to the coach (Mr L. Murray), which, he said, was a _ good augury for the future. He then introduced the recently-appointed rector of the school (Mr M. A. Bull), and assured him Of the support of ' the branch. A welcome was also extended to Mr Coxhead and two members-of the Timaru executive, Messrs Murray and Hopkins. Mr Murray was the first old hoy to hold the distinction of coachmg the first fifteen, said Mr McPherson. 1 - Mr Bull briefly replied, emphasising the need for the support of all old hoys by a newly-appointed 'rector, and thnuked the chairman for His' good wishes. > Mr F. J. Lough, who was a pupil at the school in 1885, also spoke.
