WAGE INCREASE FOR LABOURERS IN LOCAL BODIES
. Local bodies’ labourers employed by the Dunedin City Council, the Dunedin Drainage and Sewerage Board, and the Ocean Beach Domain Board receive an increase in wages of approximately 3s 6d a week on, present rates under the new award issued by the Court of Arbitration for Dunedin.
The ifiinimum rate of wages payable for ordinary hours will be £6 4e per week, to all except convenience attendants. This amount is not subject v to the court’s two cost-of-living bonuses. The provision of a weekly wage is a departure from previous awards. Wages have been made payable retrospectively as from April 1, in accordance with the agreement of the parties. FLOUR MILL EMPLOYEES. In_ an amendment to "the Northern, Wellington, Canterbury, and . Otago and Southland Flour, Oatmeal, and Barley Mills Employees’ Award, the court has provided for a new basic rats for adult male workers of 2s 101 per hour, plus the court’s two cost-of-living bonhses. Increases have been made 1 m the hourly rates of wages of 3d for rollermen, shift, oatmeal or barley millers, down to 14d for head storemen; or storemen solely in charge of store and responsible for the receiving and delivery of goods. The shift allowance has been increased by 6d per shift. Anniversary Day, or a day in lieu thereof, has been added to the paid award holidays. The term of the. present award has been extended to July 31, ,1948.
