HIGH SCHOOLS BOARD TO BUILD BOYS' HOSTEL ON HIGHGATE PROPERTY
Following the receipt of a letter from the town clerk advising that the Finance Committee of the City Council could not' grant the request of the Otago High Schools Board for a portion of the Littlebourne House property for the erection of a hostel for the Otago Boys’ High School, the board, at its meeting yesterday afternoon, decided to use its section of the former Hill Jack property in Highgate for the purpose. Approval for the use of a school bus -o Brighton at a charge of £1 11s a day was received from the Director of Education (Dr C. E. Beeby). The bus had been in operation since June 30, said the secretary. About 24 pupils used it and there would probably be more next year. The purchase of a gramophone at a cost of £57 10s for the Girls’ High School was approved. Consideration had been given to the board’s protest against the removal of the Moana tennis courts to the Bobin Hood quarry area, stated a letter from the town clerk, but as two large playing areas would be made available for the loss'of one small area as a result of the Albert street extension and the closing of the Kaikorai cable car line, tho decision would stand. -
