NEW ZEALANDERS IN FRENCH TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

(Rec. 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 16. The Paris correspondent of the Associated Press says the New .Zealander, Barry, thought he had escaped _ a severe first round match when officials of the French Lawn Tennis Association scratched the Czech, Drobny, for failing to appear for his scheduled match in the French championships today. The association later, however, accepted a last-minute entry from the American, Patty, who beat Drobny in the Wimbledon semi-finals. Patty went into the draw in Drobny’s place. Barry plays him to-morrow or Friday. The New Zealander, McKenzie, was defeated in the second round of the men’s singles by Eellizza, 6-4, 6-0, 6-2.
