TRACK WORK AT RICCARTON

(Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 15. - The trial grass at Riccarton this morning provided fast going for this time J of the year, and some useful work was staged. Palm Bearer indicated her forward condition by moving off from the six furlong post, and sprinting home the last half mile in 49 2-5. Her stable mates, Banshee and Zorro, ran five furlongs under restraint in 1.6, the last four in 51 4-5. Banshee is to go north for Saturday’s meeting at Trentham, and will be ridden by C. McDonald. Lalla Meer and Belle Leorine covered five furlongs in and Night Blush recorded a similar time, the last four in 50 1-5. Ballocl.buie and Deficiency ran five furlongs in 1.3 4-5, and Lord Elgin and Martial Note recorded 1.5 1-5. Wide Range and Rival • Chase galloped a half mile attractively in 50 3-5. The former would reach top class next season if he could be kept sound. # Citril, sistfer to Derene, ran half mile comfortably in 51 2-5. This is one of the most promising rising three-year-old fillies at Riccarton. Carry On strode over five furlongs in 1.4 3-5. This Coronach youngster has furnished well, and should soon make good next term. Bruce and Royal Robe were companions over half a mile in 51 4-5. The former, who' is carrying solid condi-

tion, appeared to be favouring a hind leg when being trotted after his gallop. Bali and Te-Muka ran six furlongs in 1.19 1-5, and Miss Medley and Lady Welbeck went over the same ground in 1.19 2-5. Test Pilot and Troytown were responsible for another brilliant display over 10 of the schooling steeplechase fences, jumping each fence abreast and at -a fast pace. The latter has been ridden in all his schooling to date by M. McLintock, who will be able to resume riding after Julv 31. Olga’s Choice and Fading Light jumped four hurdles at a solid pace, the latter again making a bold snowing for a comparative novice. Wane showed too much pace for Vulnerable over six hurdles, giving a faultless display. .He has been ridden in all bis schooling by R. Hawes, who will be at Trentham on Saturday, and in his absence there is a doubt about Wane fulfilling bis engagement at Washdyke. Hawes will ride Montolla d’Oro, Roman Son, and Batal at Trentham. Tamerlane and Edward were companions over six of the steeplechase fences, both giving satisfactory displays. Real Night followed them over the first five.

Psalm, who will again be ridden by L. J. Ellis, is to have her last race in the Onslow Handicap' at Trentham on Saturday, and will be mated with Foxbridge next season. After Amorlad won the Trentham Hurdles on the first day of the Wellington meeting his rider, R. Heasley, was asked if he would be available to ride him in the Winter Hurdles, but Heasley was already engaged to ride Prize Ring. Since then it was decided to start Royal Writ in the Winter Hurdles and Heasley will have to ride him.
