ALL-TIME RECORD IN NATIONAL SAVINGS

(Special.) WELLINGTON, July 15. An all-time record was achieved in national savings last week when the number of places which obtained or exceeded their allotted objectives was the highest yet recorded for any one week, no fewer than 325 out of the 352 quota areas being successful. In 10 of the 20 postal districts every locality in those districts recorded the attainment of its individual weekly quota, with 11 additional towns having accomplished their full year’s quotas. A total of 124 such successes has now been achieved during the current financial year. Heriot, in Central Otago, exceeded its quota by the largest percentage last year and has already saved more than four times its annual quota of £1,560 for the present year. Altogether 8,842 new national savings groups have been established since the inception of the group savings scheme in October, 1940, of which 105 have been added since April 1 last.
