TWO MEN FATALLY OVERCOME BY FUMES
(Rec. 9 a.m.) SY D.N EY. July 9. Two fuinigators overcome by cyanide fumes in the hold of tho steamer Marella lost their lives to-day, despite heroic efforts-by firemen and ambulance officers to resuscitate them. Three other fumigators in the hold managed to reach the deck before they collapsed. The two victims fell from a platform 25ft from the deck to the bottom of the hold, where they lay unconscious for 20 minutes before they were brought out by firemen wearing masks. After unsuccessful attempts at resuscitation, the two men were taken to hospital and placed in iron : lungs, but failed to revive.
