NATIONAL PARTY PREPARED TO FIGHT AGAINST STATE OPPRESSION
(Special.) WELLINGTON, June 28. “The result of the election, although not what we. had hoped it would be, must be regarded as satisfactory," said Mr W, J. Sim, Iv.C., in addressing the National Party Conference to-day. ' 1 “ Of all countries in the Empire who are fighting the menace of Communism and Socialism, we . seem to be the most solidly organised and .effective in holding our opponents at bay, and from the experience gained, and the present robust state of our organisation, we are best prepared to carry on the next stage of the fight for the restoration of freedom from State, oppression.” If the Government chose to inflict on New Zealand further instalments of Socialism it would only be by virtue of a ' pretentious . mandate which rested for its validity upon four Maori seats. One was driven to the conclusion that an unstable situation had arisen which, in the minds of many, might not bear the strain that would be imposed upon it.
