Soneri Has Built Up Imposing Record in Two Seasons
Following her brilliant win in the York Handicap under 10.1 at the Auckland winter meeting, it was expected that Soneri would be reserved for weight-for-age races. Evidently her connections have hopes of winning another handicap with the Bulandshar mare, as she figures in the nominations for the Wellington ; meeting, and has been allotted 10.12 in the Whyte Handicap, the principal flat race on the first day of the fixture. Soneri is one of the best mares raced in the Dominion for many years, and, being still comparatively young, she will have an opportunity of further enhancing her record. In her most recent success, Soneri carried 431 b above the minimum, but this crushing burden was not sufficient to stop her from jumping away smartly, and taking up a handy position behind the leaders. When C. A. Bowry called on her for a final effort, she strode past the leaders in effortless style to win with consummate ease. In just over two years’ racing, Soneri has won 14 races for £8,457 in stakes. For the short time she has been racing she has built up an imposing record, which is likely to be added to before she is retired.
