MONTGOMERY'S RULES FOR SUCCESS IN WAR AND PEACE
(N.Z.P.A. Special Correspondent.) LONDON, June 2. “ I am a soldier and not a farmer, but I have' learned during my life that it is possible to apply the rules for success in war in most other professions. There are rules for .success in war—let us see if we can relate them to farming,” said Field-Marshal Montgomery, addressing the National Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs. Field-Marshal Montgomery then gave the following 10 rules First, think and plan well ahead. Secondly, sort out essentials and let them form the framework of any action you take. Thirdly, let everyone know what you are trying to achieve. Fourthly, having decided what you want to do, do it and don’t wobble. Fifthly, study the hiiman factor—it is the man that matters, not the machine. Sixthly, be a good judge of men. Seventhly, if you have a weak member in the team, develop his good qualities rather than concentrate upon his weak points. A gardener who spends all his time digging up weeds will never grow vegetables. Eighthly,, go for simplicity in all things. Ninthly, do not worry yourself. Tenthly, do not let other people. belly-ache.”
