INTERPROVINCIAL MATCHES
WEST GOAST BEATS CANTERBURY (P.A.) GREYAIOUTH, June 2. ‘West Coast outclassed Canterbury in defeating them by 16 points to 3. Ideal conditions prevailed at Rugby Park to-day for one of the finest exhibitions of the Union code witnessed on the West Coast for many years. The Coast was cautious against the opposition, comprising Aleates, ißhind, AlcHugh, Henderson, and McKenzie, ex-Kiwis and All Black trialists, in the opening stages, but after a 6-0 lead at halftime they opened up play to win well. A feature of the play was Coats’s solid tackling and backing up, and seldom did the fast men, AlcHugh, Aleates, and Kells, get past the defence, Canterbury’s only try coming from the forwards when Hardie,. playing a solid game, crashed over. i Lindbom, the Coast full-back, gained 9 points with penalty kicks, andWalker brought the crowd to its toes with a field goal and a brilliant 6010 try from the Canterbury twenty-five. The Coast team comprised mainly young players, with a sprinkling of last year’s representatives.
