SENTENCE OF DEATH FOR STRANGLING YOUNG SERVANT GIRL
(Rec. 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, May 15. The jury at Ayr High Court sentenced to death a 19-vear-oid R.A.F. member. Peter Withers, for the murder of a 19-yenr-old servant girl, Elizabeth Andrew, who was found strangled with wire (lex in a disused R.A.F. transmitter station at Symington, Ayrshire. The jury made a strong recommendation for mercy because of Withers’s youth. Withers showed no emotion when sentence was passed.
